Považské strojárne a.s. strojárne was launched
as an affiliated company of Zbrojovka Brno. Its production program
consists of the production of semi-finished product for colour metallurgy,
aircraft engines, production of bearings, agricultural machines
and tools. The company exports around 30% of its production. It
employs 2,850 employees and ranks among the ten biggest engineering
companies in the SR.

Acquisition
The acquisition of this company is the most
significant. It was carried out in cooperation with HTC holding,
a.s. on behalf of the company Strojárska akciová spolocnost, a.s.
(SAS), in which we owned 50% of the share capital. This acquisition
took place in February and March 1996 through purchases from institutional
investors. This method allowed SAS to gain control over 39.77% of
the share capital of Považské strojárne a.s. The acquisition value
totalled 524 million SKK; approximately half the funding came from
foreign sources. We sold our stake in SAS in 1997.
